Sarracenia minor "CPS minor Monster" is a massive and unique plant. It has a striking form, an attractive lid and beautifully proportioned fenestrations, but most notably it has super size. It doesn't quite obtain the height to be considered Sarracenia minor var. okefenokeensis but the diameter and girth of the pitchers are monstrous. A great and fun to grow example of the species and probably our favourite S. minor at the nursery.
S. minor is immediately recognizable for it's hooded and domed pitcher as well as the striking translucent patches that speckle the upper half of the pitchers back. These unique pitchers are thought to lure insects foraging into the pitcher mouth, which is otherwise very dark because the downward pointed lid covers the pitcher opening. After feeding on the nectaries around the pitcher opening insects are drawn towards the bright light passing through the translucent sections of the pitcher during the day and fall into the pitcher as they move toward the light. With it's truly unique and sophisticated trapping strategy, S. minor is a must have for any collection!
