Sarracenia purpurea ssp. purpurea is an unmistakable and iconic carnivorous plant, it’s also the only pitcher plant native to Canada. Our “CPS Super Hardy” is a spectacular plant that features incredible colouration, veining, and form that make it a highly desirable specimen plant based on looks alone. But as its name suggests it's also a very hardy plant that posses heat tolerance beyond that of any other purpurea ssp. purpurea plant we grow.
Although in nature S. purpurea ssp. purpurea grows in bogs that experience hot and humid temperatures during the summer, the soil temperatures in those bogs remain cool thorughout the growing season. Because of this, when grown in pots S. purpurea ssp. purpurea is vulnerable to overheating during the summer as the plants roots quickly heat up without the insulating and oxygenating effect of cool, flowing, bog water. Our “CPS Super Hardy” clone has proven itself for many years as a hardy and robust summer grower that can easily handle being grown in pots.
Finally an easy to grow and absolutely gorgeous Canadian native pitcher plant can be yours to enjoy and grow at home. Highly recommend and very limited supply for 2023!
